England's Women win Churchill Cup

Last-gasp try beats Canada
England No.8 Georgia Stevens scored an injury-time try to give her side a 21-18 victory over Canada in the Final of the Women's Churchill Cup at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver on Saturday.

Canada were leading 18-16 when the England pack shoved the Canadians back over their line and Stevens scored.

England scored first when Shelley Rae kicked a penalty after four minutes. Canada's Kelly McCallum equalised and then put her side ahead with another. But just before half-time Emily Cooke managed to score for England to make the score 8-6.

Canada attacked from deep inside their own half and Maria Gallo sent Colette McCauley away on the half-way line. She outsprinted the England defence to score - 13-8 to Canada.

England levelled the scores when Sam Buckingham scored from a rolling maul.

Gallo was again instrumental in Canada's next score when she sent Christie Thompson over. 18-13 to Canada. A penalty by Rae made it 18-16 and put England in a position to win.
